Visitation Guidelines

Let’s ensure that visits are as low stress on the children as possIBLE

Visitation Schedule

  • Visits are expected to start and end on time.  A fifteen minute “grace period” is allowed. If the visiting parents have not arrived by the end of the grace period, the children will depart with the non-custodial parent/guardian and the event reported to DFCS (if applicable).
  • Custodial and/or non-custodial parents should call and speak to the director if they intend to be late for the visit.
  • If the visiting parent misses 3 consecutive visits without prior notification or shows a pattern of inconsistency, all future visits may be terminated.
  • Visits are not extended to “make up” time for late arrivals.
  • No unscheduled visits are allowed.
  • Others may not visit without prior approval.
  • All parties are expected to adhere to any court orders.
  • Failure to comply with the Starting Over guidelines is grounds for an immediate termination of the visit.

Understanding your visit

Visitation Basics

  • There is an attendance log.  Please sign in when you arrive and when the visit is complete.
  • A visitation supervisor remains with the children and parent at all times.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Children are not allowed to go to the parking lot during the visit and must be accompanied by the custodial parent/guardian when the visit is over.
  • No guns, weapons, knives, alcohol, or illegal drugs are allowed during the visit.
  • Conversation between the custodial and non-custodial parents must be civil (as judged by the visitation supervisor) at all times.  All effort should be made to reduce any stress the child may be experiencing.
  • The use of alcohol prior to or during the visit is prohibited.
  • Parents as well as teenaged children or visitors should conduct themselves respectfully towards participants, children and volunteers while they are visiting the Saint Julian’s campus.
  • Starting Over reserves the right to notify law enforcement at any time during the visit if deemed necessary.
